  • Classes will be determined by the number of entries online at www.showman.app and the DNA samples postmarked by March 1st.

  • The Junior Fed Market Show Division is for “table ready” sheep, goats, hogs, and cattle upon arrival at the KCLS.

  • This is a terminal show division for the top 5 placed animals in each species.

  • Ownership and market carcass quality assurance requirements must be met to participate.

  • A livestock brand slip will be required for cattle entered into the Junior Fed Market Show Division.

  • Animals must be owned and possessed by the exhibitor by March 1st.

  • Any females or castrated males may be shown in this division.

  • The final weight for the animal will be determined at the specified weigh-in and vet check per the KCLS schedule.

  • The judge may bring back to the final drive as many animals as he/she sees fit out of each class.

  • Exhibitors may cross enter animals in the Junior Fed Market Show Division and Jackpot Show Division. However, if the animal is placed to make the Sale of Champions that animal is not permitted to go on to the jackpot show. Any entry fees will be forfeited. There are no refunds on entry fees.

  • The Sale of Champions will be direct to the consumer.

  • Auction animals will be harvested at a processing facility designated by the Kootenai Classic Livestock committee and has been pre-arranged.

  • If an exhibitor’s animal is cross entered in the Show Divisions and is not placed to make the auction, the animal may go on to compete in the Jackpot Show Division.

  • Any violation of rules including ownership, carcass quality, and use of drugs will result in the forfeit of funds deemed earned by the exhibitor and the animal being discarded.

  • Forfeited funds will be used by KCLS to replace any loss to the purchaser of the animal including replacement of the meat product and the remainder will be used to benefit the livestock show.

  • Exhibitors who sell an animal in the Sale of Champions will be required to write their buyer a personalized thank you submitted to the front desk before leaving the show or premiums will be withheld.

  • Minimum payouts/Sale of Champions prices are not established nor guaranteed.

  • There is no limit to the number of animals and/or species that an exhibitor can exhibit in the junior fed show, however, each exhibitor may only sell one animal per species through the sale of champions, and it must be the higher placing animal.

  • The Kootenai Classic Livestock Show Executive Committee reserves the final and absolute right to interpret all rules and regulations, arbitrarily settle and determine all matters, questions, and differences in regard to or arising out of or connected with the Kootenai Classic Livestock Show, and the right to amend or to add to these rules as it is determined necessary. An exhibitor who violates any of the rules will forfeit all privileges and payouts.

OWNERSHIP AND MARKET CARCASS QUALITY

  • Submission of a DNA sample with an 840 RFID identification number or Scrapie tag is required as proof of ownership and possession and must be postmarked by March 1st. Kits may be purchased through the Showman App. Please allow time for shipping the DNA kit. DNA submission does not constitute an entry in the KCLS.

  • Exhibitors may purchase and submit an unlimited number of DNA kits and can register for entry an unlimited number of animals. However, an Exhibitor may only take one, the highest placing animal, of each species on to the Sale of Champions.

  • Any DNA sample that does not match the animal at the Sale of Champions is a violation of rules.

  • It is mandatory that each exhibitor and their parent or legal guardian submit a signed Quality Assurance Form for each animal prior to selling in the Sale of Champions auction. All medications, vaccinations, injections, medical treatments, and any foreign substance administered, in any form or manner, from the ownership deadline (March 1) through Sale of Champions Auction must be recorded. It is advisable exhibitors maintain this form from time of ownership and bring with them to the KCLS to ensure accurate record keeping.

  • The Kootenai Classic Livestock Show is not responsible for lost mail or mailing delays specific to the DNA testing.

  • The United States Department of Agriculture Wholesome Meat Act applies to the sale of market livestock sold during the KCLS Sale of Champions as follows:

    • Animals must be in good health and carcasses free of drug or chemical residues.

    • Antibiotics and sulfonamides have required withdrawal periods.

    • Drug label directions for use and withdrawal periods must be followed.

    • If drug or other chemical residues are found in tissue of carcasses, the entire carcass may be condemned.

  • Before administering antibiotics and/or sulfonamides, consult a licensed practicing veterinarian, or label directions of the drug.

  • All withdrawal times and elimination period must be met before entry into the show regardless of veterinarian directed feed or medication. A prescription from a veterinarian does not constitute the use of any medication in a market ready animal that surpasses the withdrawal time.

  • Upon processing the animals, the processor will perform a visual inspection of the carcass and hide to ensure that all medication injections protocols have been met. There is zero tolerance for any injection that does not follow the Quality Assurance Guidelines provided by the FDA and will be considered a violation of rules.

  • There is zero tolerance for any mechanical modification to the hide or muscle of the animal through the use of injection. Any indication of such will be photo documented and considered a violation of the rules.

DRUG TESTING UPON BEING PLACED TOP 5

  • By entering the Junior Fed Market Show Division, all exhibitors grant permission to the KCLS to drug test their entered animal(s) by means of urine, blood, or tissue sample.

  • Every animal eligible for the Sale of Champions will be drug tested and the right to be DNA tested reserved.

  • Testing will be completed immediately following selection of top 5 animals in a public place by a licensed veterinarian in the presence of the exhibitor and at least one parent or legal guardian.

  • The collected samples will be sealed, signed, and sent to a certified lab.

  • Results of the test will be made available upon request to the exhibitor and/or their parent or legal guardian as well as all members of the KCLS committee.

  • There is Zero Tolerance for ANY residue found in excess of the minimum without regard for withdrawal times including medications or drugs even if prescribed and will be a violation of the rules.

  • The Kootenai Classic Livestock Show maintains a Zero Tolerance policy which means if positive results are reported, we have an obligation to investigate in order to determine what circumstances led to this result.

  • Zero Tolerance is based on the elimination period, rather than the withdrawal period. There is a difference. The withdrawal period is the amount of time that must pass for consumed products to be safe. The elimination period is the amount of time it takes for all residue to be eliminated from an animal’s system. For most drugs, the elimination period is longer than the withdrawal period.

    ▪ A positive test for any type of performance enhancing medications, drugs, chemical, or substance, including but not limited to steroids, diuretics, anti-inflammatories, tranquilizers, pain killers, or chemical residues will be a violation of the rules.
